INDEPENDENCE (KWWL) -

Eastern Iowa is represented this Thanksgiving during the Macy's Parade in New York City.

Two Independence dancers performed right before Santa made his appearance.

Madison Arend and Alyssa Jensen of Independence perform Gingerbread Sparkle during the Thanksgiving Macy's Day Parade.

Both girls said all their hard work paid off.

"They sent us a video of the dance to learn a little bit ahead of time. It's pretty fast and jazzy. It's to a Christmas song," Madison said.

"We've been working on it for a few weeks now, and it's just been a lot of fun," Alyssa said.

Madison and Alyssa said it was a true honor to perform right before Santa arrived to the parade.

"Just being able to have the experience to be in the parade with friends," Alyssa said.

"We'll meet some friends along the way and maybe get to enjoy the city," Madison said.

"I'm just so glad I get to do this, and I'm super excited," Alyssa said.

The 600 America Dance Stars arrived earlier in the week to coordinate steps.

Following days of practice, both girls said they plan to see the New York City sites and say good-bye to all their friends.

According to Parade organizers, the same person has been directing the America Dance Stars for nearly 30 years.
