Sanders lays out immigration plan

(AP) -

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is vowing to create a "humane" immigration system and promises to expand upon President Barack Obama's executive actions within the first 100 days of assuming the presidency.

The Vermont senator says he would allow all undocumented immigrants who have been in the United States for at least five years to stay in the country without fear of being deported. He says nearly 9 million people would be covered by his actions.

Hillary Rodham Clinton and Democrats have suggested the Obama administration has been too aggressive in deporting people living in the U.S. illegally.

Sanders says he would seek an overhaul of immigration laws, including a pathway to citizenship within five years for people living in the U.S. illegally.
