Waterloo Police investigate parking lot shooting

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Waterloo Police are investigating a shooting reported at the Quality Inn parking lot Tuesday night.

Nearby business owners say they're relieved someone was taken into custody, but Waterloo Police are investigating whether more people were involved.

Moments after police arrived, authorities arrested 26-year-old Keesha Tu due to a warrant out for her arrest in Linn County.

"They provided some wrong information about who they were, when they did get the real name they realized the person had a warrant out of Linn County," Captain Dave Mohlis said.

Nearby business owners and Quality Inn employees tell me they thought they heard fireworks late at night. Moments later, Waterloo Police arrived and started investigating the incident.

"It doesn't matter whether it's east side or west side, We investigate them all, and try to determine who's doing the shots fired," Captain Mohlis said.

Captain Mohlis said a handgun was also found in a nearby car.

"Whether that weapon was used  in the incident itself of shots fired is undetermined. We're still investigating that part,"  Captain Mohlis said.

A Quality Inn employee said the hotel was at nearly 20 percent capacity during the shooting, and they do not believe any guests were in any immediate danger during the incident.

Nobody was reported injured during the incident.
