State troopers boost patrol Thanksgiving break

Posted: Updated:

Today is one of the busiest travel days of the year.

Because so many people spend this week traveling, there's extra law enforcement on the roads across the entire state.

They're hoping that by being out on the roads, drivers will see them and be careful.

I rode along with a trooper, and he told me some of the big things they're looking for this week.

Impaired driving and speeding are some of the obvious ones.

They're also checking to make sure you're wearing your seat belt because they say that's the best way to make sure stay safe if you do unfortunately get in an accident.

According to the Iowa Department of Public Safety, three people died on Iowa roadways the week of Thanksgiving last year.

A lot of Iowa Police Departments and Sheriff's offices actually get grants from the state so they can pay all the extra officers on the road this week.
