Hawks drop top ranked Oklahoma State in front of 42,000 plus

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

The Iowa wrestling team opened the season with a monster performance, dropping top ranked Oklahoma State 18-16 in front of 42,287 fans in Kinnick Stadium. The meet shattered the previous record on 15,996 set by Penn State in 2013.

With the outcome still in doubt, Sammy Brooks gave the Hawkeyes a big shot in the arm at 184 pounds. Brooks rolled to a 17-2 technical fall over Jordan Rogers for a 15-13 lead in the meet. Nathan Burak sealed it at 197 with a 5-3 decsion over Nolan Boyd.
