Proposed rule to make public housing properties smoke-free

The HUD secretary, Julian Castro, announces a proposal to make the nation's public housing properties smoke-free.

If passed, the new rule will require more than 3,000 public housing agencies to put in smoke-free policies within 18 months of the final rule.

This police will prohibit cigarettes, cigars and pipes in all living units as well as indoor common areas, offices and outdoor areas within 25 feet of the buildings.
