Preps for Al Roker's visit to Dubuque

Posted: Updated:

Dubuque's river walk is getting camera ready for the arrival of NBC's Al Roker.

"We've worked with the production crew, worked with the City of Dubuque, to make sure that adequate lighting is on the river walk...that the Grand River Center is lit up while they're here," said Taylor Cummings, Director of Marketing with the Dubuque Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.

It's all for Al's Rokerthon 2 tour.

He'll forecast the weather from all 50 states, including Washington D.C within a week.

Dubuque is the only Iowa stop on the tour.

"NBC reached out to us directly, which is always exciting for us...because it means Dubuque has kind of made it mark...and we're recognized as a place for this to happen," said Cummings.

The visitors bureau says they suggested the river walk location along with a couple others to NBC.

Ultimately, the river walk beat out the others.

"The backdrop will be the River Room, as far as what we've suggested.  As they get down there they might make some last minute tweaks and changes," added Cummings.

Organizers say it all happened really fast...but they're excited for Al's short visit to the Tri-States.

At last word, Al Roker is running an hour behind so he will be in Dubuque on Monday at around 10:45 p.m.

Everyone is invited...we'd love to see you there!
