Wisconsin sees two train derailments in two days

Posted: Updated:

Two train derailments happened over the weekend in Wisconsin, causing homes to evacuate and highways to close.

On Saturday, a BNSF train carrying ethanol derailed in western Wisconsin, near Alma. Roughly 18,000 gallons leaked into the Mississippi River.

No injuries were reported, but two highways were shut down as a result.

A second derailment occurred Sunday in Watertown when 10 cars went off the tracks. The Canadian Pacific train was carrying crude oil, spilling some of its contents.

According to Canadian Pacific, the car that was leaking has been sealed. Dozens of homes were evacuated, as Hazardous Materials teams were called in response to the incident.
