Retired TSA dogs are available for free adoption

(NBC) -

The TSA is adopting out some of its canines -- free of charge to good homes.

The dogs that are up for adoption are explosives detection dogs who either flunked out of training or have retired.

They typically range in age from two to ten years old, and have lived in kennels, not houses -- so they're not familiar with living in a home environment quite yet.

Any available dogs are located in San Antonio, Texas and adoptive families who undergo the application process will have to travel to Texas to pick up their new dog.

If you're interested, contact the TSA adoption coordinator via email at adoptatsacanine@ole.tsa.dhs.gov.
