INDEPENDENCE (KWWL) -

Its a bird, its a plane, no it's a pumpkin.
That's right, pumpkins were falling through the air in Independence today.
The local airport hosted the community event to encourage interest in aviation.
A part of the event was getting rid of the Halloween season's pumpkins by dropping them out of planes at a target.

"Yea its a little windy today, so its a little hard to get just right on the line and the speeds are a little hard to get down just right, to time it just right. As you can see, some of them were  pretty close, some of them weren't," said Jonathan Walter, owner of Walter Aviation based out of the Independence airport.

Pilots from across the region stopped in for the event and even offered some young pilots rides.
