Flu Shots: Additional facts from the CDC

When it comes to choosing a flu shot, patients have two options this year: trivalent and quadrivalent. Pharmacists say the trivalent, also known as the 3-strain, is the traditional flu vaccine; while the quadrivalent, otherwise known as the 4-strain, is a newer option.

The quadrivalent is intended to protect patients from an additional strain of the flu virus.
