GRANT COUNTY, Wis. (KWWL) -
Several hogs are killed after a semi carrying them rolls in Grant County, Wisconsin.
It happened Monday morning just before 10:00 on County K near Woodman township; the tractor trailer was loaded with 150 hogs, each weighing about 270 lbs.
A release from the Grant County Sheriff's Department says the driver Richard Kipp, 52, from Fort Atkinson, hit a guardrail while negotiating a sharp curve; the trailer detached from the tractor and overturned on a steep embankment near the Wisconsin River.
Several pigs were ejected from the trailer, others trapped inside. The Sheriff's Office corralled loose pigs with the help of Fennimore Livestock; several hogs died in the crash.
The Highway was shut down for several hours; the trailer was totaled and the tractor and guardrail had extensive damage.
Kipp was cited for driving too fast; however, he wasn't hurt in the crash.
