ACC suspends officials after Miami "Miracle" ending

Posted: Updated:
Durham, North Carolina (KWWL) -

The Atlantic Coast Conference levied a two game suspension on the on-field officials and the replay official in the Miami-Duke game citing multiple errors made on the final play.

With 5 seconds remaining on the clock, Miami returned a kick-off for a touchdown on a play that featured eight lateral passes and lasted 48 seconds. Officials initially threw a flag for a block in the back on the play, but waved off the flag, ruling the block a legal play giving the win to Miami.

The ACC, however, says the crew made four errors on the play, including not seeing Miami running back Mark Walton's knee on the ground prior to throwing a lateral to a teammate. The league also says multiple blocks in the back by Miami players were missed. Per league rules, however, the 30-27 win by the Hurricanes can't be changed.
