(KWWL) -

We're just a day away from Halloween, which is one of the busiest nights in neighborhoods all over Eastern Iowa.

It's important to make sure kids are safe while they're having fun.

And this year with Halloween being on a weekend, it's important to be extra cautious.

KWWL spoke with police about Halloween safety tips.

Make sure kids who are  trick-or-treating have adult supervision and stay in groups.

Trick-or-treaters should have reflective tape on their costumes, or they can carry a flashlight or glow stick with them.

People should stay on sidewalks if they can and be careful when crossing the street.

Police say never enter a home for any reason without parental permission.

They also say people need to be extra cautious because things are different when Halloween falls on a weekend.

Police say people should be especially vigilant of drunk drivers this year because adult parties, bar sales, and trick-or-treating all happen on the same night.
