IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Friends of Historic Preservation (FHP) will hold "Keys to the Past: The Fortieth Anniversary of Historic Preservation" November 7th to celebrate a milestone for the group.

The event will commemorate the day FHP formed originally as Friends of Old Brick to save Old Brick Church in Iowa City from being demolished.

Since their first project, FHP has preserved multiple buildings, architectural material and historic treasures, and held countless educational events and fought for neighborhoods.

The celebratory event will consist in part of workshops for the public, including a historic window workshop and a historic preservation education and projects workshop.

The workshops will be presented by Terry Phillips of Mills Seed Co, Architectural Resources and TK Enterprises, and Ryan Prochaska, and instructor of historic preservation trades at Kirkwood Community College, respectively.

Other presentations during the event will include lectures on historic property research and historic tax credits.

Workshops and presentations start at 1 p.m.
