Jon Crews wants to continue to serve Cedar Falls

Posted: Updated:

Jon Crews moved to Cedar Falls at the age of 5. It was only a few years later, at the age of 24 when he decided to run for mayor.

"I knew the mayor, not that I was thinking about running for mayor but he retired in April and I was curious. Somebody said why don't you run and I said sure why not," said Crews.

Crews served as mayor on and off for part of four decades. All together, he's been in the mayors seat for 30 years, but he says he's not done yet.

"I enjoy the process. I enjoy working with people and I enjoy success. You know some of the things, we have low crime, you can see results and feel results. A guy said last night said I am grateful every day I wake up in Cedar Falls. That really makes you feel good," said Crews.

Crews says he wants to adopt a 2020 plan and have a common goal for the future.

"We develop a plan for the future. The three goals this year, the three categories are prosperity, place and people. Obviously we need to look at adopting that and getting buy in with various organizations. It's helpful to have a plan for the future. It doesn't guarantee we'll get there but it's better than waiting to see what happens," said Crews.
