WATERLOO (KWWL) -
Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare facilities in Waterloo, Cedar Falls and Oelwein will be joining the Mercy Health Network (MHN).
The health care and housing ministries at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls and Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters in Oelwein are all involved in the proposed transfer.
The Wheaton Franciscan Sisters made the announcement Thursday that they'll be forming the new relationship with MHN intended on better quality health care services, better health and higher efficiency.
Final negotiations for this deal are expected to take place in the first quarter of 2016.
The transition for those health care facilities will happen in conjunction with Wheaton's transfer of other health care and housing ministries.
Sister Pat Norton, Chair of the Sponsor Member Board for Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare says "this decision came after a lengthy discernment process by the Sisters as we are aging and our numbers are getting smaller in the United States."
Mercy Health Network is based in West Des Moines; they have multiple facilities throughout Iowa including: 12 hospitals and medical centers, 27 community hospitals and 151 physician clinics.
