LAFAYETTE, Ind. (KWWL) -

Big 10 football players are known for being tough and hard-nosed, but one student athlete's softer side is also being celebrated.

Tario Fuller is a freshman running back at Purdue. Recently, he overheard 3-year-old Kinley Shufflebarger making a birthday wish list at Target. He didn't know Kinley, but struck up a conversation with her.

"He came up to her and started talking to her... asking her which (doll) one she liked and she was like, 'I really like this one,'" said Megan Shufflebarger, Kinley's mother.

So, Fuller bought her the doll.

"I want him to know how much it meant to us and to her," said Shufflebarger, who started by thanking him on social media and the post has taken off.

Purdue shared it on their Facebook page, saying they couldn't be more proud of the type of young men and women they have.

"When you hear something good, it's just very humbling because it makes you want to do good things for other people," said Shufflebarger.
