BOULDER, Colo. (KWWL) -

As Iowa is home to the first-in-the-nation caucuses, it's no surprise issues which matter here were discussed during Wednesday night's GOP debate.

Ethanol was the center of a question for Ben Carson. A moderator asked Dr. Ben Carson about oil subsidies and using them for ethanol processing.

"I was wrong about taking the oil subsidy," said Carson. "I have studied that issue in great detail.  And what I have concluded is that the best policy is to get rid of all government subsidies."

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie brought up Iowa after a moderator questioned him on climate change.

"We need to make sure that we do everything we can for all kinds of energy, natural gas, oil...absolutely...but also where it's affordable, solar, wind in Iowa has become very affordable and it makes sense," said Christie. :That's the way we deal with global warming, climate change or any of those problems."

He wants states to work with the private sector to make energy more affordable.
