Texans cut Mallet

The Houston Texans released backup quarterback Ryan Mallet after he missed the team flight to Miami last weekend.

Mallet was forced to take a commercial flight to join the team. He blamed his tardiness on heavy traffic.

The Texans allowed Mallet to dress for the game because they only have two quarterbacks on the roster, Ryan Mallet and starter Brian Hoyer.

It wasn't the first time Mallet was in trouble with the coaches. In August, he missed a training camp practice because he "overslept". Mallet was also late for practice last Saturday.

There are reports saying the Texans are reaching out to T.J. Yates. Yates played for the Texans for three seasons starting in 2011
