CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

On Tuesday morning, A 22-year-old woman delivers a baby unexpectedly, saying she did not know she was pregnant.

Paramedics rushed to an apartment complex on Walnut Street in Cedar Falls where they found the newborn in his mother's arms, wrapped in towels.

They were both taken to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

A spokesperson says the hospital is focusing on the health of the mother and her newborn son at this time.

We are unaware of both the mother and baby's current condition, but Cedar Falls Police say when paramedics arrived to the apartment Tuesday morning, both mom and the baby were active and appeared healthy.

Cedar Falls Police say the woman's roommate is a nurse who helped the new mother and baby, while waiting for paramedics to arrive.

It is not uncommon for a woman to not know she is pregnant. There's even a TV show dedicated to the topic.

It's called "cryptic pregnancy" and according to numerous studies, about one in every 2,500 women do not know they are pregnant, until they're in labor.
