No one hurt in Janesville house explosion

Posted: Updated:

Fire officials are investigating a house explosion in Janesville.

It happened in the 500 block of Maple Street.

Both the Janesville and Waverly fire rescue crews responded to the explosion around 1 pm Monday.

Authorities say the homeowner just walked out of the house seconds before the house exploded.

Firefighters say there was a fire in the basement that spread to the floor above.

"It was just a big boom," said Andy Eibey, a neighbor.

Eibey also happens to be a firefighter, and was off duty at the time.

He saw the explosion from his yard.

"I looked across the yard where the house was at, I saw a guy running towards the house, I didn't know if he was going back for somebody, so I quick hopped in the car and ran over," said Eibey.

Fortunately, no one else was inside.

Fire crews had to make holes in the home to let the smoke out while they worked from the inside.

"I'm glad nobody was hurt, we probably lost a house out of the deal, but everything is replaceable. I'm just glad everyone is ok," said Eibey.

No one was hurt, and the cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
