WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Waterloo Police are looking for the driver who hit a 13-year-old girl before 1 a.m. Sunday.

The victim's cousin says they were trying to cross the street at Riehl Street and Broadway Street, when a man in a black car hit her cousin.

After police arrived, 13-year-old Lyisha Dixon was taken to Iowa City to be treated for facial injuries.

Her cousin says she cannot believe the driver left.

"My heart dropped. I thought she was dead, and my life just flashed before me. I didn't know what happen. It hurts, because I just want to find him, because he hurt her," Dixon's 16-year-old cousin, Chijinda Johnson said.

The accident is under investigation, and authorities are trying track down video from nearby intersections and businesses to find the driver.

Witnesses say he had Iowa license plates.
