Update: I'll eat just one more...many of us say that as we reach for another bite of food...
But when it comes to eating cheese...a new study says it might be more than a lack of self control to blame.

It may be addiction.  According to a new study by the University of Michigan, some foods contain ingredients that can trigger addictive behavior.
Topping the list - cheese.

"They fly off the shelves," said Jordan Hansen of Hansen's Dairy in Hudson, Iowa.

Cheese curds, fresh and flying off the shelves at Hansen's Dairy as fast as they can make them.
"What they do to get that Cheese fix," said Jeanne Hansen of Hansen's Dairy.

To get that fix Hansen's customers driving hours; coming from as far as davenport.

"A 12oz. bag and they'll say these may not make it home. Maybe I better take two because husband will want them when I get home or wife will want them when I get home and If I get home with none, I'm in trouble," said Jeanne.

You've heard of the nursery rhyme. Little Miss Muffet eating her curds and whey. Curds are actually the fat and protein out of milk concentrated to make cheese.

It's that high concentration of fat that scientists say cause addictive eating behaviors.
"Its got protein in it. Its got calcium in it, so its ok to be addictive to those things," said Jeanne.
"It doesn't surprise me. Cheese can be very addictive," said Jordan.

It may not shock cheese producers, but children like Avery Veiseth & Elise Olson-
"Do you like cheese?"
   "Yes!!"
   "Do you think its addictive?"
  Aren't quite convinced.

Have you ever been eating pizza and blindly ate one more piece. Well now there is a reason.

A new study conducted by the University of Michigan says cheese crack is a real thing. And it can be addicting.

The study, published in the U.S. National Library of Medicine, dove into why certain foods are more addicting than others. Researchers in the study, identified addictive foods from about 500 students who recently completed the Yale Food Addiction Scale. This Scale is built to measure if someone is addicted to food.

The study revealed that pizza, was the most addictive food list. The reason that not only kids, but college students and adults love pizza, has to do with the cheese.

The study also revealed some foods are addictive because of how they were processed. The more processed and fatty the food, the more it was associated with addictive eating behaviors.

Cheese is more addictive due to the ingredient called casein. Casein is a protein found in all milk products. During the digestion stage, casein releases opiates called casomorphins.

"[Casomorphins] really play with the dopamine receptors and trigger that addictive element," registered dietitian Cameron Wells told Mic.

So now there's a reason why people reach for that extra pizza slice. Cheese addiction is real.
