US attorney in Des Moines says he's leaving for law firm

DES MOINES (AP) -

The U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Iowa has announced that he's leaving the post next month.

His office indicates Nicholas Klinefeldt is stepping down effective Nov. 15 to join an international law firm.

Klinefeldt was nominated by President Barack Obama and took office on Nov. 25, 2009.

Before Klinefeldt's appointment he practiced criminal law in Boston and civil and criminal law in Des Moines.

He's a University of Iowa law school graduate.

The Southern District of Iowa covers 47 of Iowa's 99 counties and includes the cities of Burlington, Council Bluffs, Davenport and Des Moines.
