IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

The City of Iowa City will hold a dodgeball tournament Sunday, November 8th in the Grant Wood Elementary school gymnasium at 10 a.m. to raise money for Special Olympics in Iowa.

Teams must each pay 200 dollars to participate, which will go toward providing year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

The deadline to register to play in the tournament and receive an event t-shirt is Friday, October 23rd.

Teams are encouraged to arrive in costumes and to bring friends and family members to cheer for them.

Teams are to include 7 and 10 players who are at least 12 years old.

Food and beverages will be available to participants.

Event organizers include the police departments of Iowa City, Coralville, North Liberty and the University of Iowa, and local businesses are currently being contacted about serving as event sponsors.

For more information, contact Iowa City Crime Prevention Officer R.A. Mebus at 319-356-5276 or al-mebus@iowa-city.org.
