WATERLOO (KWWL) -

An Eastern Iowa sheriff's office has one more tool to attack the growing drug issues in the county.

Jarvis, a yellow lab is the newest member of the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office.

This is their second dog.

Within just two hours on the job, Jarvis made his first drug arrest, ending with three people charged with possession of meth, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

"When it comes to narcotics sometimes you're not, you ask for consent to search and somebody won't allow you to consent to search. Well, I can run a dog around the car without any consent, it's an open air search and if he indicates on the car now we've got probable cause," said Chad Chase, Black Hawk County Sheriff Deputy.

Jarvis can also assist with finding evidence and tracking missing children.

Private donations is what keeps the K9 program going. If you would like to donate, contact the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office or check out Jarvis's Facebook page; https://www.facebook.com/K9Jarvis
