Police department purchases child identification system

Posted: Updated:
CHARLES CITY (KWWL) -

An Iowa police department made a purchase that will help with identifying children.

With help from the Floyd County Community Foundation Grant, Charles City Police Department now has a Child Identification System. The system is designed to provide parents and law enforcement with a child ID card.

The card is similar to a driver's license and contains both a picture and a physical description of the child. Parents will keep a hard copy for their use, while police will keep an electronic copy at the station at the parent's request.

With this ID, if a child should come up missing, police can send it to news stations and newspapers for quick identification.

This particular program is specifically for children from kindergarten through middle school. The ID's will be made upon parent's request and because children are constantly growing and changing, yearly updates will be encouraged.
