IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Former Hawkeyes standout Melissa Dixon has signed a professional contract with the Ringwood Hawks in Melbourne, Australia.

Dixon, a Johnsburg, Illinois native, helped the Hawkeyes to four NCAA tournament appearances and broke several records including career three-pointers, three-pointers made in a season and three-pointers made in a game.

“The coach contacted me and it seemed like the perfect situation,” Dixon said in a written statement. “I’m so thankful. I had such a positive experience playing at Iowa, and I wasn’t ready to hang it up. I’m grateful for the opportunity.”

“I am happy Melissa has signed a contract to be a professional basketball player in Australia,” UI head coach Lisa Bluder said in a written statement. “Melissa is excited to experience a new country and a new profession.  Australia just gained themselves a fabulous shooter and basketball player.”

Dixon, who reports to her new team in January, is the third 2014-15 graduate to join a professional team. Samantha Logic played her first season in the WNBA with the Atlanta Dream and San Antonio Stars. She then joined Bethany Doolittle in Calais, France where the pair plays for COB Calais.
