WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The Waterloo Community School District says the fireworks used on a middle school bus Wednesday afternoon were snap pops.

Tara Thomas, spokesperson for the district, says the driver pulled the bus over and called the police after someone at the very back of the bus was setting off the fireworks while the bus was moving.

Thomas says the district reviewed surveillance video from the bus and determined the type of firework that was used.

Snap pops, also known as bang snaps, throwdowns, snap-its, poppers, pop-its, snappers, whip'n pops, Pop Pop Snappers, whipper snappers, fun snaps, party snaps, or snap'n pops, are considered a small firework. They contain a small amount of silver fulminate high explosive that is mixed with a small amount of coarse sand or gravel that is twisted in cigarette paper. They produce a snapping sound when they are thrown, stepped on or ignited.

No one was injured.
