Seven former Kernels on MLB post-season teams

The Cedar Rapids Kernels are excited because seven former players are playing on five different MLB post-season teams.

Two pitchers and five position players make up the seven former Kernels in the post-season.

They are, by MLB team (year is last season played in Cedar Rapids):

  • Houston: Hank Conger (C – 2007)
  • St. Louis: Randal Grichuk (OF – 2011), John Lackey (P – 2000)
  • LA Dodgers: Howie Kendrick (2B – 2004), Joel Peralta (P – 2002)
  • Texas: Mike Napoli (1B – 2002)
  • Pittsburgh: Sean Rodriguez (1B – 2005)

Additionally, Don Wakamatsu (CR Reds – 1987) is the bench coach for the Kansas City Royals.

All seven former Kernels have seen action so far in the post-season.
