Study suggests summer babies are healthier later in life

Posted: Updated:

(CNN) - Some researchers say babies born in summer months have a healthier birth weight and are taller.

That research is from a new report by Britain's Cambridge University.

However, summer babies do not appear to do better in school. Scientists say that may be that, because of their birthday, they start school younger than their peers.

So why does a summer birth make a child healthier? Researchers say more is needed, but that it may be due to moms-to-be getting more sunlight and Vitamin D in their second trimester.

The study is based on data from nearly 500,000 people in Britain.
