DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The exhibit, Ahead of the Curve: The First Century of African American Experiences at the University of Dubuque, is now open at the the University of Dubuque’s Charles and Elizabeth Bisignano Art Gallery.

It shows the positive experiences of African Americans at UD since the brothers Sol and Ben Butler entered in 1915, and the racial challenges faced.

“This exhibit will showcase unique archival material that demonstrates the University’s relationship to diversity and prompts dialogue across generations and cultural difference,” said university archivist Jonathan Helmke.

Ahead of the Curve, also provides alumni stories on how best to embrace diversity moving forward.

The exhibit runs until Nov. 30th and is located  at the Heritage Center.

A reception will be held Friday, Oct. 16 from  6:00 p.m to 7:15  p.m.
