Cubs drop Cardinals 6-4, advance to National League Championship Series

CHICAGO (KWWL) -

It finally happened. For the first time in franchise history, the Cubs clinched a postseason series on their home turf in Wrigley Field. Chicago, powered by a pair of late home runs, knocked off Saint Louis 6-4 to win the best of 5 series 3-1.

Eight Cubs pitchers took the mound on Tuesday afternoon, but in the end it was Hector Rondon that shut things down. Rondon struck out 2 of the final 3 batters to pick up the save. He got Stephen Piscotty to chase a ball in the dirt for the final out of the game.

The Cubs used their signature power on offense to knock themselves in the lead. Anthony Rizzo pulled a solo shot in to the right field bleachers to break a 4-4 tie in the 6th inning. Kyle Schwarber drilled a another solo home run in the 7th to round out the Cubs scoring.

Chicago advances to face the winner of the Mets/Dodgers series in the National League Championship Series.
