DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Iowa is one of six states getting grants to improve job opportunities for adults and young people with disabilities.

Iowa will receive nearly $2.5 million.

“People with disabilities are the single largest pool of untapped, work-ready individuals in the state,” said Iowa Workforce Development Director Beth Townsend. She also added, “This grant will increase employment opportunities and provide training programs that help level the playing field for people with disabilities, so they can compete for high-demand jobs and help close the skills gap.”

The grants are being awarded by the Disability Employment Initiative.
