ISU's Niang, Morris on early awards watch lists

Posted: Updated:

Iowa State point guard Monte Morris and forward Georges Niang have earned spots on a pair of pre-season award watch lists.

Morris earned one of the 20 spots on the watch list for the Bob Cousy Award. The award is given annually to the nation's top point guard. Last season as a sophomore, Morris tallied a 4.63 assist to turnover ration, the best mark in the country.

Niang was named to the Karl Malone Award watch list, which honors the top power forward in the NCAA. Niang averaged 15.3 points per game last season while earning All-American honors. He's the only active player in the nation with 1,500 points, 450 rebounds, and 300 assists.

The awards are presented by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
