IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

The Davis family has always been a family of Hawkeye fans, but today they traded in their black and gold to support one of their own.

Andrew Davis, of Marion Iowa, plays for Illinois.

“It's a little weird being in Kinnick with orange and blue when everyone else is wearing black and gold and that's what you're used to wearing, but when it's your brother you do anything to support him and make sure he's comfortable," said Joe Davis, Andrew's brother.

They put Illinois jerseys on no matter how hard it was.

“The only thing I wish is that I wasn't wearing these colors but for him I would do anything," said Angela Hartman, Andrew's cousin.

Andrew's family says today's homecoming wasn't only special for the Hawkeyes, but it was special for Andrew as well.

“He was really nervous last night when we were talking, but excited at the same time. We have a lot of family and friends here and then obviously a lot of family and friends are watching on television," Joe told us.

Andrew played two years at Iowa Western Community College before joining the Illinois roster this season.

“He's definitely excited, it was always a dream of his to play at Iowa growing up just as it is for most Iowa kids. Even though he's not playing for Iowa it's awesome that he at least gets to play one game on the field," said Joe.

Homecoming game day at Iowa, also a homecoming for Davis, as his family welcomed him back to the Hawkeye state wearing blue and orange.

“Family is the most important thing. Today we are here to be a family. We are Illinois fans today," said Hartman.
