MARION (AP) -

Farmer's State Bank has donated $500,000 to help expand the YMCA in the eastern Iowa city of Marion.

Bank CEO Gene Neighbor says the donation was intended to honor his 97-year-old father, who was instrumental in building Marion's current YMCA.

The expanded facility will be located on an extended part of Tower Terrace Road near Linn-Mar High School and will feature a larger pool and fitness area, more gymnasiums, meeting space and a library.

The city of Marion has pledged $6.5 million dollars toward the project.

The city hopes to start construction in May and open the facility within 16 months.
