UPDATE: Allamakee County Sheriff's Office investigating fire, business is a total loss

Posted: Updated:

"It's kinda hard to see all the hard work go up in flames," said Sue Rathbun.

An early morning fire tore through the Waterville Store Bar and Grill.

The Waterville, Waukon and Harper's Ferry fire departments responded to the blaze just before 5 a.m. Saturday morning.

It's a business that's been in the Rathbun family for nearly 10 years, so it meant something to them.

Family members say they're devastated.

"And not only for us, but for the kids...just starting out.  They've only had it for  like  three years and it's really sad.  Not only a loss to us and our families, but to the community also," added Rathbun.

Fire investigators say the bar is a total loss, but the Rathbun family is still thankful.

"We're just so thankful that nobody got hurt, that's the most important thing.  We can deal with rebuilding it or the kids can...and we'll just see, we'll take it one day at a time and we'll figure out what we need to do next," said Jim Rathbun.

Owners say the insurance company will review the damage and help determine the cause the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but the owners believe it may have been electrical.

The Allamakee County Sheriff's Office responded to a fire at the Waterville Store Bar & Grill early Saturday morning.

This happened around 4:45 a.m. at the restaurant, located at 58 Main Street in Waterville.

The Sheriff's Office believes the building is a loss.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
