CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

Two strangers are now best friends after a woman saved a man's life when he had heart problems during his morning run.

It's hard to believe that less than a year ago Scott Mueller and Diane Heindl didn't know each other.  Now the two will never forget the moment they met.

Diane recalls, " It was a Wednesday morning. About 6:20, and I was on my way to work, and as I was driving along, I saw someone laying down near the apartment building back there.  I turned around and yelled at him, and he didn't respond. So I called 911 and jumped out of the car."

Scott collapsed on West 4th Street in Cedar Falls.  Diane was the first to stop.  She happens to be a doctor -- she was on her way to work at Sartori Hospital.

"When Diane found me, I didn't have a heart rate. I didn't have a pulse. I mean I was gone," said Scott.

"I knew he wasn't doing well so I started CPR," she said.

Scott had gone into cardiac arrest during is his morning jog, and Diane's quick response saved his life.

Scott says, "Words can't express how grateful I am that she stopped. So many things I would have missed. Like I say, my sons' birthdays, my anniversary. Words can't express the gratitude."
