DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Dubuque Fighting Saints announce new team captain.

Head coach/GM Jason Lammers made public that defense-man Keegan Ford is the captain of the Fighting Saints for the 2015-16 season.

Ford is entering his fourth and final season with the team. After the season, he will be heading to Michigan Tech to play for their collegiate team.

“Keegan brings great experience to the position of captain,” Lammers said of Ford. “We love the fact that he plays with passion and tenacity. That’s how we want to play.”

Ford was a member of the 2012-13 Clark Cup Champion Fighting Saints team.

“It’s amazing to have the respect of my teammates and coaches,” Ford said. “I've experienced a lot in my time in Dubuque and I will pass on some of the things I have learned to help other guys on the team going forward.”

In his 144 games with the Saints, he has scored 10 goals and 43 assists for a total of 53 points. Ford remains 35 games off the pace of the all-time games played record, which belongs to former captain Shane Sooth, who played 179 games over the course of three seasons.

Former Fighting Saints captains that precede Ford include Sooth, Alexx Privitera, Sasha Larocque, T.J. Schlueter and now-Buffalo Sabres center Zemgus Girgensons.
