Cedar Falls Fire reminds people of fire prevention week

Posted: Updated:

Cedar Falls Firefighters along with rescuers across the country are reminding people that location matters when it comes to smoke alarms, as the message behind this year's Fire Prevention Week campaign.

This week is National Fire Prevention Week. Residents are reminded of the importance of having smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area and on every level of the home, including the basement.

According to the latest National Fire Protection Association research, working smoke alarms cut the chance of dying in a fire in half. Meanwhile, three out of five fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms, or no working smoke alarms.

Cedar Falls Fire Rescue will be hosting an Open House on October 8 from 3:30  to 6:30 p.m. to promote “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep. Every Bedroom Needs a Working Smoke Alarm!”
