TOLEDO (AP) -

The first-degree murder trial of a man charged with killing his wife has ended in a hung jury.

On Friday, jurors told the Tama County judge they could not reach a unanimous decision on the case against 40-year-old Dustin Jefferson.

Jefferson is accused of actively helping or encouraging his mother, Ginger Jefferson, to kill his wife, 32-year-old Kerry O'Clair Jefferson, in September 2013.

Ginger Jefferson was convicted last year of first-degree murder in her daughter-in-law's stabbing death.

Tama County Attorney Brent Heeren indicated the state would retry Dustin Jefferson.
