CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

The Cedar Falls Police Department has purchased 15 WOLFCOM Vision Police Body Cameras.  The purchase includes five docking stations, four battery packs, and Evidence Management Software.

The purchase of the body cameras was made possible by several donations, including one from the Kaplan Criminology Club.

“We decided to get body cameras in response to what’s going on across the country, mainly for officer and civilian safety," said Captain Mike Hayes, who helped organize his department’s police body camera program.  "We formed a committee to study police body cameras and they researched for about 7 months."

The department is still working to approve its police body camera policy and is currently setting up the management software for the cameras.
