Rare Supermoon Lunar Eclipse

Posted: Updated:

The September full moon is called a Harvest Moon. It is the full moon closest to the September equinox (first day of fall…September 23). This moon will look 14% larger because it is closer to Earth getting the recognition as a supermoon. Now this will come at the same time as a lunar eclipse. The combination of a supermoon and lunar eclipse to happen at the same time is rare. It has only happened five times since 1900:
1910
1928
1946
1964
1982

and now in 2015 (September 27). The next time this happens will be 2033.
