BREMER COUNTY (KWWL) -

Some people can only dream of finishing a marathon in their life, many others get sick at the thought of trying.

Imagine wanting to run 99! That's what a couple of Eastern Iowans are aiming for, a marathon in all of Iowa's counties.

"I don't know if it's really going to sink in until we finish the last hill in that last county," said Daren Schumaker.

Schumaker and Dennis Lee make an effort almost every weekend to run across a county in Iowa no matter the distance, but the goal is to always run at least 26-point-two miles.

They say it's much more than just running it's all about being healthy.

"I mean you can get fulfillment from running around the block. It's challenging yourself and motivating yourself to better your life," said Schumaker.

So far they've run 81 counties, a journey they started more than five years ago.

"We had talked about running from one town to another and pretty soon we just decided to run across Benton county," said Lee.

The two are running for the American Heart Association, trying to raise at least $250 per county.

"Both my parents and my oldest brother died from heart disease. My dad heart attack, my mom stroke and my brother heart arrhythmia," said Lee.
