DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The Dubuque community is invited to celebrate the completion of the $30 million renovation of Hempstead High School.

Renovation includes the addition of a 700-seat auditorium, a gym with two courts and seating for 450, additional classroom space for music and technology education, a new kiln room in art, new food preparation and dining areas, plus new administrative offices and more.

“The Hempstead renovation is another example of how the state’s one-cent sales tax funding directly benefits students and our local economy,” said Superintendent of Schools Stan Rheingans. “We are excited to celebrate the project’s completion and share the renovation with our community.”

The Dubuque Community School District will host an open house and dedication for the addition on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. in Hempstead's new auditorium.

The project broke ground in May 2013 and was completed ahead of its anticipated January 2016 completion date.
