Iowa Braces for North Texas Challenge

Posted: Updated:

Last Saturday -- Marshall Koehn lined up -- what would be the longest field goal of his career -- seconds later -- the 57 yarder sailed through -- and sent Kinnick Stadium in to a frenzy --

"I'm glad they put me in field position to give our field goal unit a chance. I'm glad we could capitalize on it."

dramatic Marshall Koehn field goal now has the Hawkeyes at 3 and oh for the first time in 6 years, but obviously the goals for this team are bigger than that.

Ike Boettger: I'd say we're not even close to being satisfied at this point. We're three games in and we've got a long ways to go. It's nice we've played all right, but I don't think we're anywhere near our potential and we just need to keep getting better.

This Saturday may not seem like a huge test as Iowa's a 26 point favorite over North Texas. However 17 years ago, Dan McCarney brought a 28 point underdog Iowa State team in to Kinnick Stadium -- and strolled out with a 27, 9 win --

Kirk Ferentz: He knows how to get a team ready. He brought a heavy underdog in here in 98. Did a great job with that football game, so that's got our full attention.

As does Andrew McNulty -- the former City High quarterback -- now the starter at North Texas -- returns to his hometown a week after tossing a pair of long scores against Rice --

Kirk Ferentz: You know, he's gotten his opportunity down at North Texas. He's doing a great job. He played really well last week. We better be ready to go. He's a good football player and competitor. I saw that at an early age from him.

He's hoping to not see it in Kinnick on Saturday
