DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Dubuque Police say they responded to reports of shots fired Tuesday just before 1 p.m. in the area of 18th and Jackson streets.

Police say witnesses saw two males that fired at each other, which was confirmed after police looked at surveillance and traffic camera footage in the area.

Police then identified 20-year-old Martin Smith as one of the shooters.

No injuries have been reported, but at least one building in the area sustained damage that police say is consistent with bullet impact.

Smith was arrested and charged with going armed with intent, a class D felony that carries up to five years in prison and fine between $750-$7,500.

He's being held in the Dubuque County Jail and will have his initial appearance Wednesday morning.

The investigation is ongoing.
