BUCHANAN COUNTY (KWWL) -

The Buchanan County Sheriff's Office is teaming up with Pathways Behavioral Services and the Buchanan County Health Center to host a drop-off site for the DEA's 2015 National Take Back Day.

It's an effort to have patients and their families dispose of unwanted or expired medications.  It's also an anonymous program.

The drop-off location will be at Buchanan County Health Center, meeting room "A", 1600 First St. E., Independence from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sharps and needles will be accepted as long as they are in rigid resistant containers and labeled sharps or bio-hazard.  Examples include detergent jugs, fabric softener jugs or bio-hazard sharps containers.

Illicit substances like marijuana are not part of this initiative.  Injectable, IV solutions, inhalers and other compressed air cylinders will not be accepted.

For more information, contact Deputy Cory Hartmann with the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office at 319-334-2568.
